Fundraising will help the effort to eliminate all avoidable forms of blindness in the regions of our eye hospitals in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Haiti, Peru and Mexico as well as fund your trip.
Each participant has two options for funding the trip:
Raise $10,000 plus the cost of your airfare (for a total fundraising goal of $11,000 to $12,000, typically) from sponsorships to make your trip free.
When your fundraising goal is reached, then Vision for the Poor will pay for all remaining expenses and refund any trip costs you have already paid (e.g. pre-purchased airline ticket). The remaining funds raised will provide approximately 75 sight-saving surgeries.
Pay for your own trip (approximately $3,500 to $4,500, depending on airfare) and raise a minimum of $3,000 in sponsorships. This minimum will fund surgery for 30 poor patients.
All resources needed to help you obtain sponsorships and prepare for your climb will be provided to you.
Just back from my second Climb for Sight! Less than 2 hours to the top of the mountain, I had to turn back. Yet, it was another life changing adventure. I reached the summit on the first climb 7 years ago. On "Kili" I experienced the agony and the ecstasy of completing a goal and falling just short. I think I need to try it once more. Between the two climbs I raised enough money to fund the sight-saving surgery for 150 Guatemalan children. For that alone I will climb again.Fr.
